Encinitas Hardware was a local hardware store located on Coast Highway 101 in the 1940s. I designed this custom vintage display font from an old photograph of the store and its original neon signage.
The photo gave me enough letters to establish the proportions, shapes, and visual rules for the font. From there, I used those details to draw the rest of the alphabet, expanding a handful of surviving letters into a complete typeface while staying true to the character of the original sign.
The result is a fully functional, all-caps font with numbers and punctuation, built for logos, apparel, packaging, posters, signage, and branding. I use it all the time!
