Cash Only is a free display font based on the old hand-painted signs at Cap’n Keno’s in Encinitas. I pulled the letterforms from their wooden sign and roadside menu, then used those shapes to build out the rest of the alphabet. The download includes two versions: Cash Only Cap’n, based on the heavier lettering from the main sign, and Cash Only Meatloaf, based on the thinner, narrower lettering from the roadside menu.
I kept the weird proportions, uneven line weights, and hand-painted imperfections that gave the original signs so much character. It’s rough, a little wonky, and definitely not supposed to be perfect.
